I would say it is a tie between the 94-95 Regional loss to Taylorville and the 95-96 loss in the sectionals to Edwardsville. Both teams had 20 win seasons and seemed to be on track for a return to state. In the Edwardsville game, the kahoks even led by 6 in the final 1:30, only to see it slip away.
The 90-91 super-sectional loss to Carbondale also ranks up there. If I remember correctly, Kyle Jones almost fouled out in the 1st quarter and it was down hill from there.

The 1992 State loss was the biggest..I was in the 8th grade and it was hard to swallow. Richard hit a 30-footer from the top of the key that was sick. Steve Van Dyke had a layup that was going in....miss after opposing player slapped backboard. Tim and Chris...Steve Van Dyke...Freshman Garcia and Davinroy...Steigelman, Muniz and the All-American that was a real Kahok team.
The 1995 loss to Taylorville was a black eye on the program...Taylorville was a average Class A type team....that had a good shooting night. In 1995 for us to lose at Fletcher Gym in a regional game was a joke....
The 1996 loss was worse...we had beaten Edwardsville twice they were not very good...we were talking about Belleville East at halftime...we hated East we were wanting to crush them one more time....Clint Sitzes and Josh Helbig....we owned those two punks...anyway.
We fell asleep at the wheel....I will take the blame for that loss...I played well for 3 quarters and then was blowing kisses to my girlfriend in the 4th quarter....our 1996 team was state-quality team and we choked.

the last second layup by east louis lincoln when the traveling call was not made to defeat the kahoks after brad keenes two free thrown gave the kahoks the lead. lincoln then went on to win the state tournemant.
I was in 7th grade in 1976-77, and no team - pro, college, Olympic, whatever - meant more than the Kahoks' basketball team. A team with a legendary coach, four current or future all-staters in the starting lineup, undefeated at 30-0 through the supersectionals.
As we drove to Champaign, we heard No. 1-ranked and previously unbeaten Chicago Phillips had lost its quarterfinal. It was all ours for the taking....Until we inexplicably forgot how to shoot free throws and stay out of foul trouble and lost in the final seconds to a mediocre Chicago DeLasalle team on a terrible off-the-mark shot that somehow banked in. I was inconsolable; it was like my whole family just died.

I agree with Doug about that 1977 loss. I saw Collinsville beat a very good Belleville East team earlier that year and thought that was the best balanced Kahok squad I'd ever seen.
Another tough loss was the 1973 Elite Eight loss to New Trier East. The Kahoks beat talented Edwardsville, East St. Louis and Alton teams and handled Murphysboro with little trouble in the sweet sixteen. The state tournament had very evenly matched teams that year.Kahoks lost by two points.

90-91 Jones was in foul trouble the problem was when Kreitemeyer got inserted into the lineup when either Keene came out (Collinsville up 16-2) and Carbondale unleashed their press. Until then Carbondale could not stop Collinsville.
